Which taxis accept Cabcharge in Melbourne?

Here is the short answer, because it is the question most people arrive with. We accept Cabcharge on every booking, without exception: cards, digital passes and eTickets, on airport transfers, city work and regional runs alike. Payment is made to the driver at the end of the trip, exactly as it would be in any licensed Melbourne taxi.

The question gets asked at all because acceptance is not guaranteed across the industry. It comes down to the operator, and to the individual driver having the terminal and the right paperwork with them on the day, which is why hailing one off the street can go either way. Booking ahead removes the guesswork. When the trip is booked with us the payment method is recorded on the job, so the driver arrives already knowing Cabcharge is being used.

Because the fare is fixed and quoted before you travel, the amount going through your Cabcharge account is known in advance. That makes it easier to code against a project or cost centre than a metered fare that lands somewhere unpredictable.

How Cabcharge works, step by step

  1. Book the trip. Choose Cabcharge as the payment method when you book, so it is on the job before a driver is assigned.
  2. Travel. Nothing is charged when you book and nothing is taken up front.
  3. Pay at the end. Hand the driver the card, or give them the reference from your digital pass or eTicket.
  4. Reconcile. The trip appears on your Cabcharge account with the fare you were quoted, so there is nothing to chase afterwards.

Cards, digital passes and eTickets

A physical Cabcharge card is handed to the driver at the end of the trip. A digital pass or eTicket needs no card at all: you give the driver the reference, usually from the email or message the pass arrived in. Either works on any booking with us, and neither changes the fare.

If you are not certain which one your organisation issues, it makes no difference to the booking. Book the trip, then present whichever you hold when you arrive.

There is no card fee on top. Some operators add a percentage when the trip is paid on a Cabcharge card rather than in cash, so the number on the receipt is not the number you were quoted. We do not. The fixed fare we agree before you travel is what goes on the card, the pass or the eTicket, and it already has the tolls in it.

Who uses it

  • Corporate travel. Staff get to the airport without carrying company cash or filing an expense claim for every trip.
  • Government and public sector. Cabcharge is the standard for a lot of departmental travel, and every trip is traceable.
  • NDIS participants. Travel that sits within your approved transport supports.
  • TAC clients. Medical and rehabilitation appointments covered by an approved TAC claim.

Cabcharge fare guide to Melbourne Airport

The point of a fixed fare on a Cabcharge trip is that the amount reaching your account is known before anyone travels, so it can be coded to a cost centre on the day rather than chased at the end of the month. These are current estimates to Melbourne Airport, tolls included, for the whole vehicle rather than per person.

Pickup Distance Standard taxi Maxi, up to 11
Melbourne CBD 22.7 km $62 – $76 $79 – $97
Docklands 22 km $61 – $75 $77 – $95
Southbank 26.2 km $75 – $91 $91 – $111
Carlton 20.9 km $56 – $68 $72 – $88
St Kilda 30.1 km $83 – $102 $99 – $121
Box Hill 41.6 km $97 – $119 $114 – $140
Clayton 47.2 km $122 – $149 $139 – $170
Dandenong 58.6 km $149 – $181 $166 – $202
Frankston South 80.9 km $204 – $248 $221 – $268

Airport pickups back to any of these areas add the $5.26 airport fee, which is set by the airport and applies to every operator. Every one of the 196 suburbs on this site has its own page with its own estimate, and the same Cabcharge terms apply to all of them.

Where Cabcharge trips actually go

Most Cabcharge work we run is not a tourist trip. It is staff and patients moving between the same places week after week, so it is worth saying plainly which parts of Melbourne that covers.

  • The city and the corporate core. Melbourne CBD, Docklands, Southbank and Carlton, where most departmental and head office travel starts, along with the Parkville hospital precinct and the state government offices on Treasury Place and Spring Street. Short runs to the airport, usually booked by an assistant against an account.
  • The south eastern medical and university corridor. Clayton for Monash Medical Centre and the Monash Clayton campus, Box Hill for Box Hill Hospital and Deakin, and Dandenong for Dandenong Hospital. This is the heaviest Cabcharge corridor we see, a mix of hospital and campus appointments and staff travel, and the trips repeat.
  • The bayside and peninsula run. St Kilda through to Frankston. Longer distances where a metered fare becomes genuinely unpredictable, which is exactly where an agreed number before travel is worth the most.
  • Regional Victoria. Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and the Yarra Valley, where a Cabcharge trip is often the only practical way to reach an early flight.

If you book the same route regularly, say so when you call. We can hold the details on the account so the booking takes a few seconds rather than a full form each time.

Setting up an account

If your organisation already holds a Cabcharge account, nothing needs to be arranged with us. Book the trip and present the card, pass or eTicket to the driver.

If you book regularly for a team and would rather receive a monthly invoice than pay per trip, call us and we will set that up. It suits businesses booking several airport runs a month, and it removes the reconciliation work at the other end.

What the driver needs

For a card, the physical card at the end of the trip. For a digital pass or eTicket, the reference from your booking confirmation. If the trip is being billed to an account rather than paid on the day, mention it when you book so the driver has the right paperwork before pickup rather than sorting it out at the kerb.

Questions

Cabcharge Taxi Melbourne questions

Which taxis accept Cabcharge in Melbourne?
Acceptance is not guaranteed across the industry. It depends on the operator, and on the individual driver carrying the terminal and the right paperwork on the day, which is why hailing one off the street can go either way. We accept Cabcharge on every booking, so booking ahead is the reliable way to be certain.
Do all taxis in Melbourne accept Cabcharge?
No. It varies by operator and by driver, which is why it is worth confirming before you travel rather than at the kerb. Every booking with us takes Cabcharge, and the payment method is recorded on the job so the driver knows before pickup.
Can I use Cabcharge for a trip to Melbourne Airport?
Yes. Airport transfers are the trip we are asked about most, and Cabcharge is accepted on all of them, in both directions, at any hour.
How does Cabcharge work?
You book the trip and choose Cabcharge as the payment method. Nothing is charged when you book. At the end of the trip you hand the driver the card, or give them the reference from a digital pass or eTicket, and the trip then appears on your Cabcharge account at the fare you were quoted.
How do I use a Cabcharge eTicket or digital pass?
You do not need a physical card. Give the driver the reference from the email or message the pass arrived in, at the end of the trip. It is processed the same way a card is, and the fare is the same either way.
Can I book a Cabcharge taxi in advance?
Yes, and it is the better way to do it. Booking ahead puts the payment method on the job before a driver is assigned, so nobody is working it out at the kerb. You get a fixed fare quoted before you travel.
Do you accept Cabcharge on every trip?
Yes, Cabcharge cards, digital passes and eTickets are accepted on any booking, including airport transfers, city work and regional runs.
Does the fare change if I pay with Cabcharge?
No. The fare is fixed and quoted before you travel, the same as any other payment method, so the amount on your account is the amount you agreed.

Burwood to Airport return I always have excellent service from Prahb and Sherry’s team. They are friendly and reliable service, especially early morning trips. I don't have to worry about services cancelling like some ride sharing services. The cars they use are always impeccable clean and the ride is comfortable. I highly recommend them if you are a corporate traveller like me, who travel in some ungodly hours and don't want the hassle.

I’ve been using this service for several years now and it has never let me down. Every driver I’ve met has been professional, efficient, and consistently courteous and punctual. Booking is always smooth, with clear and prompt communication, which makes the whole experience stress-free. The cars are impeccably clean and very comfortable, and after a long flight, being greeted by a driver who is easy to find and ready to take care of everything is such a relief. I wouldn’t consider using any other company and highly recommend this service to anyone looking for a reliable, professional, and genuinely friendly experience.
